How to Flip the Camera on Monkey App

The flip button is on your own small video window, and it only appears once a video call has connected.

Once a video call has connected, look at the small window that shows your own picture. At its bottom edge there is a small camera-flip icon. Tap it once and the call switches between your front and back camera; tap it again to switch back.

That is the whole trick. The rest of this page is about the moments when the icon is not where you expect it — which is almost always one of three things.

How do I flip the camera on Monkey App?

Start a video call as usual and wait for it to connect. The other person fills the big picture, and your own picture sits in a small window on top of it. The flip icon is on that small window, along its bottom edge — not in the row of call buttons.

  • Tap the flip icon on your small window.
  • Give it a second: the call closes your current camera and opens the other one.
  • Tap it again whenever you want the other camera back.

Unless you have flipped it, a call uses your front camera. If the small window is sitting over something you want to see, you can drag it somewhere else on the screen — the icon moves with it.

Why can't I see the flip camera button?

There are three ordinary reasons, and none of them is a fault.

  • The call has not connected yet. While you are still being matched, the icon is not shown at all (more on that below).
  • Your picture is in the big window. Tapping the small window itself — rather than the icon on it — swaps the two pictures, so you end up full screen and the other person in the small window. In that layout the flip icon is hidden. Tap the small window once more to swap back, and the icon returns.
  • It is not a video call. The icon belongs to the video picture, so it is only there when there is a video call on screen.

Can I flip the camera before the call connects?

No. While you wait to be matched you will see your own preview in a small window, but that preview deliberately has no flip icon — the switch is only offered once you are actually in a call with someone.

So if you want to show the other person your back camera, let the call connect first and flip straight away. It takes about as long as saying hello, and the other person sees the change as soon as it happens.

The picture went black after I flipped the camera

Flipping is not a filter: the call actually stops one camera and starts the other. For a moment your picture can drop out while that happens, and that short gap is normal.

If it stays dark, tap the flip icon again to go back to the camera that was working. If that one is dark too, the problem is camera access rather than the flip — something else may be holding the camera, or the browser may have lost its permission for this site. The checks for that are in the camera section of the help centre, in the order that fixes most cases fastest.
