About Monkey App
A browser-based service for one-on-one video calls — what it is, how it works, and what it costs.
What it is
Monkey App is a video calling service you use at monkeyapp.online. You see who is available to talk, start a call with one of them, and the conversation stays between the two of you. There is no public room, no queue to spin through, and nothing to install — it runs in the browser you already have, on a phone or a computer.
Everyone taking part is at least 18 years old. That is a condition of having an account, not a preference.
How a call happens
You look through who is around and pick someone. You sign in before a call can start. Your camera and microphone stay off until you allow them, and nothing on this site turns them on by itself — reading a page or looking at a photo starts nothing. You can hang up at any moment, and either person can end a call without explaining why.
What it costs
Calls are paid. Coins are bought in advance and spent as you talk, and each person sets her own price — there is no single per-minute rate for the whole service. A new account gets a trial allowance, and how much it is is decided automatically, which is why you will not find a promise of "X free minutes" anywhere on this site. Before billing starts on a call you get a notice on screen.
Who it is for
People who would rather have one conversation than thirty openings. If you enjoy the roulette — pressing next until something clicks — there are free services built entirely around that, and this is not one of them.
It also suits people who want to know the cost before they start rather than after. That is why the price is on screen before a call connects, and why you will not find a promise of free minutes anywhere on this site.
How it pays for itself
By the calls, and only by the calls. There is no membership fee underneath, no subscription that renews whether you use it or not, and no advertising — which also means your attention is not the product being sold to somebody else.
What this service does not do
- Calls are not recorded.
- Personal data is not sold.
- Messages are not read as a matter of routine — only the part of a conversation that has been reported gets looked at.
- Card numbers are not stored here; payment details are handled by the payment provider.
When something goes wrong
Anyone can be blocked, and a block is permanent. Reports are read by people rather than closed automatically, and an account that breaks the rules is removed — a removed account cannot register again. What is expected of everyone is written out in the community guidelines, and the terms of using the service are in the terms of service.
Getting in touch
Questions about an account, a charge or a report go to support. How personal data is handled is set out in the privacy policy.
